Job Opportunity: NICU Registered Nurse

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Work in a Level 3 or 4 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) caring for infants including premature babies as early as 22 weeks gestation.
  • Patient diagnoses include surgical infants, hypoxic injury, and other critical neonatal conditions.
  • Special procedures and equipment used: Therapeutic Hypothermia, Nitric Oxide, UAC/UVC lines, Broviac catheters, tracheostomies, gastrostomy tubes, ostomies, Tecotherm, BCPAP, Ram NC, Alaris IV pumps, Med Fusion feeding pumps, Servo ventilators, HFOV, Baby Leo, and Giraffe incubators.
  • Unit systems include Pyxis, EPIC, SBAR, and 4P.
  • Float requirement includes Pediatrics, PICU, and nursery care for infants up to 12 months.

Schedule & Work Details

  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per 6-week period (Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays)
  • Hours: 12-hour shifts, 18:45 to 07:15 (36 hours per week)
  • Patient-to-nurse ratio: 1:2 to 1:4
  • Call requirement: None
  • Self-scheduling based on unit needs
  • Unit orientation: 24 hours
  • Scrubs: Navy blue or white

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), with NICU experience within the last year
  • Ventilator experience required
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background check within 6 months for clinical candidates
  • Drug screening within 6 months of start (9-panel acceptable)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with exceptions for past positives)
  • Required immunizations or titers: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • Physical exam and health documents as per travel healthcare standards
  • Education verification for highest degree earned (pending verification allowed for RNs with valid license)
  • Competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG competency (must pass with 82% or higher)
  • Medication and pharmacology competency exams as required
  • Color blindness testing within 1 year
  • Various facility-specific compliance trainings and acknowledgments (e.g., confidentiality, medication safety, hospital policies)

Additional Notes

  • No Return to Office (RTO) allowed after booking; call-offs or additional RTO may lead to cancellation
  • Photo for badge required immediately after signing contract (passport-style photo with specific guidelines)
  • Candidates must complete a corporate ID setup and log into the learning system within 24 hours of receiving credentials to avoid delays
  • Required to complete facility-specific orientation and annual compliance training
  • Must adhere to facility policies including tobacco-free campus and bloodborne pathogens training
