Job Opportunity: Med/Surg Telemetry Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week (12 hours each), weekends only (Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care on a Med/Surg Telemetry unit with potential to float to similar units and Emergency Department caring for the same patient population.
  • Night shift hours: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM, weekends only.
  • Must work at least every other holiday.
  • Orientation includes passing an ECG rhythm recognition test and a medication administration exam (SafeMedicate).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum 1.5 years of Med/Surg Telemetry nursing experience.
  • Med/Surg Telemetry experience within the last year.
  • Current certifications required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
  • Ability to pass facility competency exams during orientation (SafeMedicate with 90% passing score, ECG interpretation with 80% passing score).

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license or state ID) must be carried on assignment.
  • Background checks including FCRA-compliant 7-year search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) completed within 12 months and updated annually. Fingerprints must be completed under nursing code 4723.09.
  • Education verification required for all candidates.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including assessment of ability to perform essential job functions.
  • Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no declinations accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per protocol
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with boosters if needed
    • Hepatitis B vaccination/titer or declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if needed
    • Seasonal flu vaccination (no declinations accepted)
  • Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
  • Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start.

Orientation & Training

  • Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start is mandatory. Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome and cannot be skipped.
  • Modules typically take multiple days and must be completed before clearance to start.
  • Photo for badge required (headshot, shoulders up, white background).
  • SafeMedicate preparation materials provided before orientation.

References & Work History

  • Two professional references required from employment within the past year (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
  • Employment application must include at least 3 years of prior work history with 2 years in acute care and similar clinical area.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared to complete fingerprinting at the facility in addition to agency fingerprinting.
  • Candidates with a break in employment longer than 6 months at this facility may need to retake orientation modules and competency exams.
  • Candidates must use their legal name consistently across all documentation and onboarding systems.
