Registered Nurse - Neuro Trauma ICU (Travel/Contract)
Location: Springfield, Oregon
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Patient Ratio: 1:2
Unit & Patient Population
- Neuro Trauma ICU with a busy, diverse patient population including medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases
- Care of patients with non-traumatic intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), seizures, multi-system organ failure, and post cardiac arrest
- Common diagnoses: GI bleeding, alcohol withdrawal, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), sepsis, COVID-19, ARDS, CHF, CKD, AKI, donor management, psychiatric symptoms, MSOF, CVA, ICH
- Procedures include chest tube insertion/removal, central and PICC line management, bedside tracheostomy, IO insertion, intubation, massive transfusion, cardiac arrest response, post cardiac arrest cooling catheter placement, and use of Nitric Oxide and temp pacers
- Equipment used: PA catheters, Impella devices, ventilators, CRRT, IABP, Zoll cooling catheter, Arctic Sun pads
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oregon
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year
- 2-3 prior completed travel nursing assignments
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- TCAR (Trauma Care After Resuscitation) certification
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- Proficient in management of multi-system organ failure and thermoregulation (hypothermia/hyperthermia)
- Skilled in pre- and post–cardiac catheterization/intervention management
- Knowledgeable in IV insulin protocol management
- Experienced in chronic and acute renal failure management
- Competent in arterial line, central line, and PICC line care and management
- Ability to administer procedural sedation
- Familiarity with hypothermia protocol management, including use of Arctic Sun protocol
Skills & Competencies
- Trauma nursing experience with ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias, multi-system organ failure, thermoregulation (hypo/hyperthermia)
- Management of pre/post cardiac catheterization, IV insulin protocols, acute and chronic renal failure
- Arterial line, central line, and PICC line care and management
- Starting IVs, continuous IV sedation, emergency medication administration, procedural sedation
- Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Hypothermia protocol and Arctic Sun use
- Management of BiPAP, CPAP, chest tubes, ventilated patients, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
- Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs), suctioning (ETT, NT), ventilator management
- Infection prevention, isolation precautions, PPE use
- Care of surgical wounds with drains and wound vacs, temporary pacers
Work Environment & Expectations
- Floating required within scope to CVICU, Telemetry, Acute Care (neurology, surgical, ortho/med), observation, and ED boarding units
- Flexible scheduling including weekends based on unit needs
- No on-call requirement
- Locals not accepted; must be willing to travel
- Orientation: Bi-weekly on Mondays; includes 4-hour orientation for float assignments

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements
- Background checks including 7-year search, SSN trace, federal and state checks required within 60 days of start
- Drug testing within 30 days of start (specific panels required)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (onsite candidates)
- Immunizations or declinations required for: Tdap, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu seasonal vaccine (or approved exemptions)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, plus annual TB questionnaire
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules and quizzes with 100% score prior to start
- Signing of various facility policies including workplace violence prevention, masking, personnel restrictions due to illness
- Submission of photo for badge, demographic forms, and other facility-specific documents prior to start
Additional Notes
- Must sign Social Security verification release
- No guaranteed block scheduling but flexibility is preferred
- No restrictions on return to work (RTO)
- Must review and comply with facility’s orientation manual and daily responsibilities prior to start
This position is ideal for an experienced ICU trauma nurse with strong critical care skills, recent Epic experience, and prior travel assignments who is flexible and ready to work night shifts in a high-acuity Neuro Trauma ICU setting.
