Job Opportunity: CVOR Registered Nurse
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:00 AM – 6:30 PM)
- On-Call: Yes, 5-8 calls per month including weekends; holiday call may be required
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty; must be able to circulate complex cardiac, general OR, and vascular cases
- First-Time Travelers: Only accepted if candidate has 5+ years of experience
- Types of Cases: CABG, TAVR, LVAD, Impella, Valve surgeries, Ascending/Descending aorta, Heart & Lung Transplants, etc.
- Local Radius Rule: 60 miles
- Locals: Accepted on a case-by-case basis
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of CVOR experience, with CVOR experience within the last year
- At least one completed travel assignment
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Ability to circulate complex cardiac and vascular cases
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually (specific mask models required)
- Immunizations and Titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest X-ray if positive history
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series; boosters required if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
- Drug Screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days prior to start; no instant tests accepted
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
Background and Documentation
- Background Check: Annual, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including multiple specific searches (SSN trace, sex offender registry, national criminal, etc.)
- Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
- Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers required; attestation letters accepted only if other verification methods exhausted
- Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; Nursys verification for RNs mandatory
- Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view, business casual attire, no hats or sunglasses; must be submitted by Wednesday before start
Facility and Orientation Information
- Facility Type: Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet Hospital
- Charting System: EPIC
- Parking: Permit required with $20 registration fee for garage hang tag; additional fees may apply for other parking locations
- Orientation:
- Completion of online modules (approx. 2 hours) required before orientation
- First Day Instructions (FDI) sent after clearance; modules must be completed prior to start or traveler will be sent home
- Emergency Assignments: During hurricane season (June–November, peak Aug-Sept), all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams
Additional Notes
- Facility may call off traveler for 1 shift per 2-week pay period; hours can be broken down to equal one shift
- Requests for time off (RTO) must be submitted with application and are approved based on department needs
