Pediatric Stepdown Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Portland, Oregon


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Pediatric Stepdown)

  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Description

  • Pediatric Intermediate Care Unit (PIMC) providing intermediate level care for medical/surgical patients aged 0-18 years (excluding obstetric patients).
  • Patient populations include non-ICU neurosurgical, video EEG, peritoneal dialysis, chronic trach/ventilated patients, select hyperbilirubinemia, select cardiac surgery, research patients, and complex post-op cases (orthopedic spine, craniotomies, bladder augmentations).
  • Opportunity to work as a charge RN on some shifts if needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oregon.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, preferably within the last year.
  • Experience working with pediatric patients.
  • Ventilator experience.
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Current PALS certification.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or competency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with External Ventricular Drain (EVD) or Peritoneal Dialysis (PD).

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS and PALS must be traditional AHA or Heartcode Complete; employer-verified e-cards only.
  • ACLS certification is required for some roles but not explicitly stated here.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification recommended.
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required (score 85% or higher).

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, TSPOT, or QGOLD) within 12 months prior to start; chest x-ray and TB questionnaire if positive history.
  • Tdap vaccine or signed declination form required.
  • COVID-19 vaccine status may affect TB testing requirements.
  • Immunity or vaccination (or signed declination) required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (full series or titer)
    • Varicella
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required by December 1, 2025.
  • Fit mask testing required within one year prior to start (N95 or equivalent); onsite fit testing not available.

Orientation & Training

  • Completion of facility-specific online modules prior to start, including:
    • Information Privacy and Security Essentials
    • Integrity Foundations
    • Harassment Prevention Fundamentals
    • Glucometer 2026 (exemptions apply)
    • Omnicell Nurse Patient Care Training (exemptions apply)
    • Vocera Badge Training (for inpatient RNs)
  • Medication override test provided during orientation (not required before start).
  • Professional appearance policy must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
  • Facility-specific job description must be signed prior to start.
