Registered Nurse (RN) – Clinical Support Unit (Critical Care)
Location: Boise, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Unit: ICU Float Pool (Clinical Support Unit RN Float Pool)
Job Overview
- Float pool includes multiple units across three facilities: ER, ICU, MedSurg, Telemetry, Labor & Delivery/Postpartum, and NICU.
- RNs float only within their specialty and never to a lower acuity unit.
- Float assignments can be at any facility and include 1:1 sitter roles.
- Units covered:
- ER (Boise, Meridian, Nampa) – Meridian ER busiest but no trauma; Boise ER includes Pediatric Trauma.
- ICU (Boise, Meridian, Nampa) – generally lower acuity ICU patients.
- MedSurg (6 units across facilities).
- Telemetry (4 units across facilities).
- Labor & Delivery/Postpartum (L&D and Mother Baby units).
- NICU (primarily feeder growers).
Nurse:Patient Ratios
- ER: 1:4
- ICU: 1:1 to 1:2
- MedSurg: 1:5
- Telemetry: 1:4
- Pediatrics: 1:3
- NICU: 1:4
Required Certifications & Skills
- BLS (required for all)
- ACLS and NIHSS (required for Telemetry and Critical Care units)
- TNCC (required for Emergency Department)
- Must have at least 2 years of experience in specialty
- Prior travel experience is required
- Highly preferred: Antepartum and Mother Baby experience for L&D travelers
- RNs will be required to titrate drips in ICU, ER, Telemetry, MedSurg, and PICU
- Common titratable drip example: insulin (MedSurg)
Orientation & Support
- Orientation includes a meet-and-greet on day 1 plus 3 shifts of inpatient orientation
- Charge nurse present on all units
- Float pool leadership includes 7 assistant managers with 24/7 on-call coverage
- Nurse aides/patient care techs available with ratios ranging from 1:8 to 1:10 depending on unit and shift
- Telemetry, ICU, ER, and PICU nurses must read and interpret monitors; L&D requirements to be confirmed
Scheduling & Work Environment
- Shifts: 12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- No self-scheduling; block scheduling attempted but not guaranteed
- Weekend and holiday shifts as needed
- No call or standby requirements
- Assignments communicated via app approximately 1 hour before shift start
- Mid-shift floating possible to different units and facilities as needed
- Facilities are within about 20 minutes of each other with safe parking available
- Dress code: Clean and professional, no specific scrub color required

- Radius rule: Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility to be considered
- Float pool includes multiple facilities and units, providing diverse clinical experiences within specialty areas

L&D Unit is Traveler friendly for CST roll as well as RN roll. Work load is very manageable. Great staff support.
