Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg/Oncology 6S Unit

Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days
Hours: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM), 36 hours per week
Unit Details:

• 36-bed unit specializing in Post-Op, Oncology, and Telemetry patients
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6
• Royal blue scrubs required
• No false nails allowed

Patient Population & Care Focus

• General MedSurg patients and some post-operative cases (lap cholecystectomy, lap appendectomy)
• Oncology patients with complications such as neutropenic precautions, pneumonia, infections
• Frequent management of chest tubes, including PleurX chest tubes for malignant patients discharged home
• Occasional psychiatric patients requiring 1:1 sitter

Required Qualifications & Certifications

• Current BLS (AHA) certification required
• ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification is a plus
• Valid, unexpired driver’s license required (must be within 50-mile radius)

Experience & Skills

• Experience with oncology patients and chemotherapy administration preferred
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips (Phillips monitors) required; central monitor tech available but RNs must interpret their own strips
• Experience with chest tube management highly desirable
• No cardiac drip titration; only Heparin drip titrated on this unit
• RT manages CPAP and BiPAP; nurses are not expected to manage respiratory equipment

Staffing & Support

• Charge nurse available 24/7; day shift charge nurse does not take patient assignments, night shift charge nurse does
• 3 CNAs on day shift and 3 on night shift support nursing staff
• House supervisor presence not specified

Scheduling & Work Requirements

• Every-other-weekend work required (Saturday and Sunday for day shifts)
• Holiday work included in permanent staff rotation schedule
• Floating may be required to other MedSurg or Telemetry units
• No mention of call or standby requirements
