Job Description
- Position at a major hospital campus in Cleveland, Ohio.
- Med/Surg Telemetry Registered Nurse role.
- Shift: 3 twelve-hour shifts per week (12-hour shifts), rotating day/night shifts (7pm-7:30am / 7am-7:30pm). Shifts may vary based on hospital needs.
- Must work at least every other holiday.
- Orientation includes ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate exam; passing scores required.
Requirements
- Minimum 18 months of permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel assignments.
- Minimum 18 months of recent Med/Surg or Telemetry experience (travel experience accepted).
- Must hold a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license.
- Certifications required: AHA BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
- Pass/Fail testing (ECG and medication) during orientation.
- Must carry a government-issued photo ID during assignment.
Certifications & Competencies
- Required Certifications:
- ACLS (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable)
- BLS (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable)
- NIH Stroke Certification (AHA, Apex, AACME, or Bluecloud only)
- Preferred but not required:
- PALS (for PICU, Pediatric Stepdown, Pediatric OR)
- TNCC (preferred for ER)
- Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual.
- Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
Licensure & Background Checks
- Background check required prior to start; must be updated annually and after breaks in service of 2+ months.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start and updated annually (code 4723.09 for nursing).
- Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing; facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
- Primary source verification of state license and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start.
- Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical acute care experience in a similar area.
- Two professional references required from recent employment (within 1 year).
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later).
- Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 or 1870+) within 12 months of start, updated annually.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tdap every 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if negative/equivocal
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if negative/equivocal
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or declination documentation
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
Orientation & Training
- Completion of online training modules prior to start is mandatory.
- Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone.
- Candidates cannot skip training videos before tests.
- Modules typically take multiple days to complete and must be finished before clearance to start.
- Facility covers cost of 4 hours of module time; additional time not covered.
- SafeMedicate preparation materials provided for pass/fail exam during orientation.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be prepared for potential shift rotation to meet operational needs.
- Candidates with gaps in employment longer than 6 months may need to retake orientation modules.
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific documentation and testing requirements.
- Must be able to safely perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg Telemetry RNs licensed in Ohio or compact states, who are comfortable with rotating shifts and meeting comprehensive credentialing and health requirements.
