Job Opportunity: X-Ray Tech

Location: Orangeburg, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Perform radiographic procedures requiring strong knowledge of anatomical positioning and physiology.
  • Apply ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis in adult and/or pediatric radiology.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative and technical competency.
  • Coverage includes OR, Orthopedics, Fluoroscopy, Inpatient, Outpatient, and Emergency Room.
  • Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM (5x8 hour shifts) with on-call rotation including weekends.
  • Floating within scope to meet facility needs is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Radiology Technologist license in South Carolina.
  • Minimum 1 year of Radiology Technologist experience within the last year.
  • ARRT (R) certification.
  • SCRQSA (R) certification.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Experience as an X-Ray Technician.

Facility & Work Environment

  • Level III Trauma, Acute Care Hospital.
  • 286 staffed beds.
  • Charting system: Epic.
  • Parking: Free.
  • Scrub color: Teal top and black bottom.
  • Hurricane season (June-November) may require assignment to emergency response teams.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Copy of Driver’s License and Social Security Card required.
  • Completed and accurate I-9 form and E-Verify attestation confirming work eligibility in the US.
  • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, including national and state criminal checks, sex offender registry, and FACIS 3.
  • Education verification required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if needed.
  • OFAC sanctions list search required prior to start.
  • South Carolina Medicaid Excluded Providers search required for sub-vendors.
  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations.
  • Complete employment application/resume.
  • Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units.
  • Verification of last 3 clinical employers (or fewer if applicable).

Certifications & Competencies

  • ACLS: Required for adult critical care units; preferred or required depending on unit.
  • PALS: Required for pediatric units except Pediatric OR; preferred for Pediatric OR; not required for Adult ER.
  • NRP: Required for neonatal care, AHA/AAP certification only.
  • TNCC: Required as applicable; not required for ER RNs.
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM): Required as applicable.
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required.
  • Color blindness testing required prior to start.
  • Competency exams required; pediatric OR prefers pediatric-specific exams but accepts regular OR exams if no pediatric experience.
  • NIH Stroke Certification required for ER and other units as applicable.
  • IV Therapy certification required for select LPNs (not applicable here but noted).
  • Tech certification verification required nationally for allied professionals.
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required.

Licensing

  • South Carolina state license required (primary source verification).
  • License must be active, unencumbered, and with no pending actions.
  • For RRTs, SC RRT license required; MRI Techs do not require SC Radiology license.
  • Cath Lab Techs may start with SC registration pending full license.
  • NURSYS verification required for RNs and LPNs/LVNs.
  • Licensure hits must be approved by the facility.

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Initial physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands.
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start; if positive, proof of chest X-ray required.
  • Annual TB questionnaire required.
  • Required vaccinations or proof of immunity:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form.
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or vaccination series; boosters required if low titer.
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required.
    • Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series; boosters if low titer.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 - Mar 31). Declinations not accepted.
  • COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form.
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests accepted.
  • Respirator medical clearance required annually for patient-facing roles (RespSafety questionnaire).
  • Fit mask testing done onsite during orientation; facial hair must be trimmed/shaved prior.

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (approx. 4-6 hours) prior to start; must be done on a computer, not a phone.
  • First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay platform access provided after clearance; all modules must be completed before orientation or traveler will be sent home.
  • Upload COVID and flu vaccination documentation into OurDay platform.
  • Clear, passport-style badge photo required by Wednesday before start date.
  • Job description acknowledgment required prior to start.
  • Radiation exposure attestation required before start if radiation badge is needed.

Additional Notes

  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks.
  • Local candidates accepted on a case-by-case basis.
  • On-call rotation includes weekends.
  • Floating to other departments within scope is expected.
