Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery

Location

Farmington, New Mexico
Community hospital setting in the San Juan River Valley region

Employment Type

Travel contract
Contract length: 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Population

Labor and Delivery unit with 17 beds and 2 triage rooms
Patient population: Adults and newborns
Approximately 75 deliveries per month
Patient ratios follow AWHONN standards
Equipment includes fetal monitors, ISTAT, and Freestyle
Electronic Health Records: Cerner and Fetalink

Schedule

Night shift: 7 PM to 7 AM
36 guaranteed hours per week
Weekend hours vary
No call requirements
No float requirements

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in New Mexico
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Minimum 3 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year
At least 2 years of experience performing cervical exams
Experience working with infant patients
Experience in an acute care setting
Experience in charge nurse roles
Postpartum care experience
Nursery experience
Certifications:
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- ACLS (American Heart Association)
- AWHONN certification

Preferred Skills

Fetal monitoring
Stabilization of neonates
Troubleshooting high acuity situations
Strong triage assessment skills

Work Environment

Level III trauma center
Not a teaching hospital; minimal supervision expected
Provides medical, surgical, rehabilitation, childbirth, cancer, nephrology, pediatric, behavioral health, day surgery, imaging, and lab services
Regional mission serving Four Corners area (NM, AZ, CO, UT)

Additional Notes

Candidates must be able to start within 10 business days of offer acceptance for rapid placement
Must perform duties consistent with standard of care and industry standards with minimal supervision
Local housing options available

Pros

Unit is comprised of many travelers. Core staff and travelers have all been fantastic! The unit is set up quite well to manage the surges of patients. It is the only main hospital around so it can definitely provide good experience. Most of the providers I've encountered over the last couple months actually listen to the nurses and are easy to work with.

Cons

It is definitely busy before the size of the town. I can't say I have any other cons.
