Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
- Location: Asheville, NC
- Employment Type: Travel
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Unit: Emergency Department (ED)
- Facility Size: 101 beds in the ED unit
Unit Overview
- Level II trauma center and comprehensive stroke center
- High-volume ED with over 100,000 visits annually
- Regional referral center with specialized services including Level III neonatal ICU and pediatric emergency care
- Busiest robotic surgery program in the Carolinas
- Only open heart and interventional cardiology services in the region
- Recognized for high clinical quality and patient safety (Magnet® Designation, Leapfrog “A” grade)
Patient Care & Staffing
- Typical patient-to-nurse ratio: 4:1 (medical cases), up to 7:1 for behavioral holds
- Support staff includes techs (cardiac monitoring, triage), and unit clerks (day and night shifts)
- Equipment used: Baxter pumps, GE monitors
- Documentation system: Cerner
- Scheduling: Every other weekend required; no block scheduling; must meet department needs
- Floating: No floating outside ED; must float within all ED sections
Required Certifications (must be current before start)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) within 90 days of hire
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years nursing experience in a Level II trauma center or comprehensive stroke center
- At least 1 year experience in an Emergency Room setting
- Previous experience with HCA Healthcare preferred
- Teamwork mentality with ability to coach and provide real-time feedback
- Flexibility to work across all areas of the ED
- Advanced clinical skills relevant to emergency nursing procedures

- Emphasis on patient experience: AIDET communication, respectful behavior, continuous patient updates
- Dress code: Navy scrubs required
Licensure
- Must hold a valid Registered Nurse License
