Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Largo, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Start Date: July 13, 2026
Shift: Days, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:30 AM – 8:00 PM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours

Unit & Patient Details

Unit: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
Patient Age Range: Adult and Geriatric
Average Daily Census: 6 patients
Unit Beds: 8
Nurse-to-Patient Ratio:
- CVICU/CCRU: 1:2
- If floated to Intermediate Care (IMC): 1:3 (lower acuity)
Patient Diagnoses Include:
- Cardiac Surgery: CABG, valve procedures, combined CABG/valve
- Cardiac conditions: CAD (STEMI, NSTEMI), AFIB with RVR, cardiogenic shock
- Vascular: peripheral bypasses, EVAR
- Thoracic: VATS
Special Procedures/Unit Details:
- Immediate post-op care for cardiac surgery patients
- 1:1 nursing for first 12 hours post-op
- Ventilator management in collaboration with respiratory therapy
- Use of FloTrac, CRRT, IABP, Impella devices
- Groin/radial artery management (fem stop, TR bands)

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland
Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Scheduling & Work Expectations

Weekend shifts: Every other weekend required
Holidays: Required as scheduled
Floating: Required within specialty, including IMC and lower acuity units as needed
On-call scheduled shifts: Not required

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Background Check: 7-year criminal history within 30 days of start, updated annually
Drug Testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted)
Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start; lab items must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
Fit Mask Test: Within 1 year of start; lab items must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
Immunizations/Vaccinations:
- TB testing (QGOLD, TSPOT, or 2-step PPD) within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap as applicable
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines/boosters required
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer or declination accepted (series not accepted)
- Seasonal Flu Vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
COVID-19 vaccine: Not required for this location but documentation or declination collected for tracking
State-specific exclusion list check (Maryland Medicaid Sanctioned Providers List) within 30 days of start
Facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreements, badge photo, dress code review, and job description acknowledgment must be completed prior to start
Competency exams required as applicable (medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, age-specific, color blindness) with minimum passing score of 80%

Additional Notes

Immediate post-op cardiac surgery care requires high acuity skills and familiarity with advanced cardiac devices and monitoring
Floating to lower acuity units may be required, so flexibility and adaptability are important
This is a travel/contract position with a defined 13-week assignment
