Position Overview
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (NICU)
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Location: Columbus, Ohio
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
- Weekly Hours: 36 hours
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Responsibilities
- Float to multiple units as needed, including:
- PICU, Cardiovascular PICU (CV PICU)
- Stepdown Unit
- Medical-Surgical (MS)
- Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) NICU (long-term care, 2-3 years average stay)
- Emergency Department (ED) (very rare)
- Must be comfortable with frequent tracheostomy care and working with heavy parent involvement in BPD NICU.
- Will float to other campuses as required.
Required Qualifications
- Licensure:
- Current Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Experience:
- Minimum 2 years total Level III/IV NICU experience.
- At least 1 year of Level IV NICU experience.
- References:
- Two professional references required at time of submission.
- At least one reference must be a manager or supervisor.
- Background and Compliance:
- Current government-issued photo ID matching legal name on RN license.
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start (7-year search including all counties lived/worked).
- Education verification through National Student Clearinghouse or equivalent.
- Ohio BCI/FBI fingerprinting within 60 days of start, updated for each new contract.
- State-specific searches including Nurse Aide Registry, Inmate Registry, Medicaid Exclusion, and Abuse Registry.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
- Health and Safety:
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start.
- Annual flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 31 - May 31); medical/religious exemptions require facility approval.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within last 10 years.
- TB testing per facility protocol (PPD or IGRA within 12 months).
- Hepatitis B vaccination or positive titer.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers; boosters required if titers are negative or equivocal.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer; boosters required if titers are negative or equivocal.
- N95 fit testing within 1 year of start, updated annually.
- Competency:
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
- Other competency exams as required by specialty.
Additional Requirements
- Must comply with facility float expectations and be willing to float to various units and campuses.
- Must complete a two-part interview process:
- Initial screening with Float Pool Leader within 24-48 hours of submission.
- Second interview with NICU unit manager based on initial feedback.
- Legal name on all documents must match RN license and official records.
- Must complete facility-specific documents prior to start, including:
- Infection Control Policy acknowledgment.
- Code of Conduct.
- Confidentiality and IT Use Agreement.
- Fingerprint screening questions.
- Unit-specific skills checklist required and must be updated annually.
Prior Travel Experience
- No explicit prior travel experience required.
