Job Opportunity: Sterile Processing Tech
Location
- Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type
- Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Scheduled days: Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (with holiday rotation)
- Floating within scope to meet facility needs, including possible permanent reassignment to other campuses

Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of Sterile Processing Tech experience (no first-timers accepted)
- Level 1 Trauma experience required
- Experience in sterilization, decontamination, assembly, and wrapping of surgical instruments
- Preferred case experience: Neurosurgery, Genitourinary, Robotics, ENT, Orthopedics, Transplant, Gynecology
Certifications & Licenses
- National certification required: CBSPD and/or HSPA
- BLS certification not required
- Must have a valid Sterile Processing Tech license/certification as applicable
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
- Copy of Social Security Card or SSN verification
- Completed and accurate I-9 form with E-Verify attestation
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, including national and state criminal checks
- Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder if verification pending
- Physical assessment specific for Sterile Processing Techs, completed and signed by a licensed provider within 1 year of start (not a general physical exam)
- Fit test for N95 mask (O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+), renewed annually
- Required immunizations and titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest X-ray if prior positive
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31), with documentation uploaded by deadline
Competency Requirements
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Color blindness testing prior to start
- General competency exam required
- Annual skills checklist for applicable units
Additional Requirements
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Complete employment application/resume including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
- Verification of last 3 clinical employers (or fewer if applicable) through third-party vendor or acceptable attestation letters
- Radiation badge may be required if assigned to units with radiation exposure (not typical for Sterile Processing Techs unless specified)
- Facility-specific orientation modules and first day instructions must be completed prior to start
- Passport-style badge photo required before start date
Requirements/Qualifications
- Sterile Processing Technician with a minimum of 2 years of experience
- Sterile Processing Technician experience within the last year
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
Work Conditions & Notes
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks; guaranteed hours otherwise
- Local candidates considered on a case-by-case basis
- During hurricane season (June–November), all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams; candidates should consider this before accepting or extending assignments
