NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Lafayette, Louisiana
Shift: Day (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Job Overview
- Work in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with an average daily census of 30 patients.
- Patient-to-nurse ratio is approximately 3:1.
- Floating assignments include mother-baby and pediatric units.
- Weekend coverage required every other weekend.
- Electronic health record experience with Epic is required.
- May be assigned to an Emergency Team during emergency events, requiring staying onsite or relief duties as directed by unit management.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana.
- Minimum of 2 years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience, including experience within the last year.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Additional Requirements
- Skills checklist and competency exam specific to specialty required annually.
- Photo for badge: full color, passport-style, taken within last 6 months with plain background.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification is not required for ICU/NICU specialties.
- Employment application and resume required, including 7 years employment history and explanations for gaps.
Important Notes
- First-time travelers must meet higher experience requirements than previous travelers.
- Emergency team participation is mandatory if assigned. Candidates uncomfortable with this should not apply.
- Floating to mother-baby and pediatric units may be required.
- Certification renewals must be completed prior to start if expiring within 30 days.
- Background checks and license verifications must be completed and approved before or shortly after start date.
This position offers a challenging NICU environment with a supportive team and requires strong neonatal nursing skills and certifications.
