Registered Nurse - Med/Surg Telemetry (Travel/Contract)
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Position: Med/Surg Telemetry Registered Nurse
- Shift: Day/Night rotating shifts (7pm-7:30am / 7am-7:30pm)
- Shifts may vary based on hospital operational needs
- Facility will try to honor preferred shifts but reserves the right to rotate
- Must work at least every other holiday
- Orientation includes ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate testing (passing score required)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 18 months of permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel assignments
- Minimum 18 months of recent Med/Surg or Telemetry experience (travel experience accepted)
- Prior travel experience is required (travel experience will suffice for recent Med/Surg/Tele experience)
Licensure & Certifications
- Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand
- Required certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or American Red Cross
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or American Red Cross
- NIHSS Stroke Certification (AHA, Apex, AACME, or Bluecloud only)
- Other certifications:
- Pass/Fail ECG & Medication testing during orientation (required for bedside RNs except OR)
- Annual Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- State License Verification and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
- Preferred but not required:
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
Required Documents & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Background checks including:
- FCRA compliant 7-year search
- EPLS/GSA/SAM (monthly)
- HHS/OIG (monthly)
- Fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) within 48 hours of contract signing, results required within 12 months and updated annually
- Education verification (required for all candidates)
- Employment application with 3 years prior work history, including at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care and similar area
- Two professional references from within one year of start date (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director)
- Skills checklist (annual)
- Unit-specific competency exam (annual)
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (required for new candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later)
- Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months and updated annually
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if needed
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or declination
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if needed
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31)
Orientation & Training
- Completion of online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome)
- Modules include SafeMedicate prep materials and other facility-specific training
- Candidates must complete all modules before clearance to start
- Testing and training cannot be skipped or done via mobile devices
- Facility covers cost of 4 hours of module time; additional time not covered
Additional Notes
- Candidates must complete fingerprinting both through the agency and at the facility
- Fingerprinting code: 4723.09 (Nursing)
- Candidates can start with fingerprint results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start
- Candidates must be prepared to comply with all facility-specific policies and testing requirements
- Return candidates with less than 6 months gap may have some requirements waived (e.g., orientation testing, modules)
This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg Telemetry RNs with recent clinical and travel experience, who hold the appropriate Ohio or compact state license and certifications, and are ready to work rotating shifts in a high-acuity hospital setting.
