ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job – Metairie, Louisiana

Position Overview

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (ICU)
• Employment Type: Travel/Contract
• Location: Metairie, Louisiana
• Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Patient Ratio: Typically 1:2, occasionally 1:3
• Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• Call: Not required
• Float: Required to float to all ICUs; may also float to Emergency Department (ED), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and occasionally to Medical-Surgical/Progressive Care Units (1:4 ratio)

Required Experience & Skills

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
• Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, with ICU experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – may be obtained onsite within 30 days of start (cost approx. $50-$100)
• NIH Stroke Certification
• Note: CPI Blue Card accepted only

Licensure

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• State license verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months prior to start
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations accepted with appropriate documentation)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray per current guidelines (two-step skin test or equivalent)
• Annual TB questionnaire required
• Proof of immunity or vaccination for:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
• Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination (declinations must be signed within 12 months of start)
• Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31), with exemptions and declinations accepted with proper documentation
• Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel or expanded panel depending on hire date)

Competency & Training Requirements

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (annual, minimum 80% score)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (annual, minimum 80% score)
• Core competencies Part I, II, and III (annual)
• Skills checklist within 12 months prior to start and updated annually

Additional Job Details

• Must be able to care for COVID-19 and isolation patients; know your N95 mask size
• Return to Orientation (RTO) limited to 5 days total
• Employment application must include 7 years of work history with no gaps over 30 days

This position requires a highly skilled ICU nurse comfortable with advanced cardiovascular and critical care equipment, flexible in floating across multiple units, and committed to maintaining all required certifications and health documentation.
