Registered Nurse - Medical/Surgical/Telemetry (Night Shift)

Location: Ithaca, New York
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM

Job Overview

• Bedside patient care position on a Medical/Surgical/Telemetry unit
• Requires experience with Epic electronic health record system
• Work schedule includes every other weekend and every other holiday

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York
• Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience of at least 2 years
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Onboarding & Compliance Requirements

Health & Immunizations

• COVID-19 vaccine proof or agency declination (optional)
• MMR: Positive IgG titer for Measles, Mumps, Rubella or 2 vaccine series; if negative/equivocal, vaccination required within 30 days of start
• Varicella: Positive IgG titer or 2 vaccine series; if negative/equivocal, vaccination required within 30 days of start
• Hepatitis B: Positive antibody titer, 3 vaccine series, or signed declination form
• Tdap: Preferred but not required; if no record, declination form required
• Tuberculosis (TB) testing: One of the following within required timeframes:

  • Two PPD skin tests (one within 12 months, one within 3 months) OR
  • One Quantiferon/Spot test within 12 months
  • For past positive TB tests, chest x-ray within 12 months may be required
• Annual physical/health statement within last 12 months including vitals, height, weight, Snellen eye chart, and physician’s clearance with no restrictions
• Fit test for respiratory protection completed within last 12 months (annual requirement)

Background & Documentation

• Agency background check within 30 days of start, including:

  • SSN address trace for all counties lived/worked in last 7 years
  • County and national criminal searches
  • FACIS 3 check
• Drug screen within 30 days of start (9+ panel including amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, oxycodone, PCP, methadone, methaqualone, propoxyphene, nitrites)
• Valid US driver’s license or state ID (not expired)
• Color headshot photo (professional, no filters, JPEG format)
• Signed job description and employment verification of most recent employer
• Two professional references:

  • One supervisor reference from last 12 months
  • One supervisor or peer reference from last 3 years
• Completion of agency-specific skills checklist for the assigned unit (updated annually)
• Completion of core competency exams (must score 80% or higher)
• Completion of agency-specific self-study packet and quiz
• Completion of sexual harassment acknowledgement and code of conduct forms
• Completion of parking registration form
• Completion of assignment confirmation form
• Completion of 7 required instant background checks (manual upload required)

Additional Notes

• All certifications must remain valid throughout the assignment
• Documentation such as TB questionnaire and Epic questionnaire must be completed on agency-specific forms
• Annual reassessment form required for travelers extending beyond one year

This position is ideal for experienced Med-Surg/Telemetry RNs comfortable with night shifts and working in a bedside care role with electronic health record proficiency.
