Unit Information

  • Unit Type: Medical-Surgical Float
  • Unit Size: 61 beds combined
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
    • Day shift: 1:5
    • Night shift: 1:6
  • Nurse Aide Ratio: 1:15
  • Floating Required: Yes
  • Shifts: 12-hour shifts
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
  • Call or Standby Requirement: Yes, with LCD (likely limited call duty)
  • Dress Code: Any scrub color
  • Orientation: Travel Clinical Based Orientation (CBO) with unit-specific float checklist; orientation includes every other week and night shifts, first to float

Equipment & Monitoring

  • Respiratory Therapy Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP, High-flow oxygen
  • Telemetry: Yes
    • Monitor Techs read telemetry strips
    • RNs confirm telemetry readings

Clinical Practice

  • RNs are not required to titrate drips
  • No charge nurse or house supervisor role on this unit
