Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract
Location
- City: Harvey, Illinois
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Room
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
- Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Emergency Room nursing
- Must have prior experience in an urban, Level I Trauma Emergency Department
- Experience in a teaching hospital preferred
- Prior travel experience not required
- First-time travelers accepted
Schedule Requirements
- Weekend work required every other weekend
- Floating to other units required
- Block scheduling not accommodated
- Local candidates accepted
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA provider or AHA RQI only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA provider or AHA RQI only
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA provider or AHA RQI only
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – required for ER clinical candidates; may be completed onsite twice per month
Preferred Certifications
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- CPI (if not already certified)
Licensing
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Illinois
- Pending licenses are not accepted
- NURSYS verification required within 30 days of assignment start
Documentation & Compliance Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID
- Background checks including 7-year history, aliases, sex offender registry, national and federal criminal checks, FACIS III, education verification, and international checks if applicable
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start (attestations acceptable for pending)
- Education verification: ADN or BSN required; diploma/transcripts acceptable if verification unavailable
- Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually, confirming good health
- Fit mask test within 1 year for approved mask types (3M 1860 S/R, 1870+, 9205+); onsite fit testing available if needed
- Immunizations and titers (must be completed within 2 business days of contract signing):
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (declination allowed)
- Varicella
- Negative 9-panel drug test within 30 days of start
- Flu seasonal vaccination/documentation or approved medical/religious exemption required for 2025-26 season
- Photo for badge (passport style, plain background, forward facing, no headgear)
- Completion of facility orientation modules (~2 hours) prior to start
Additional Requirements
- Skills checklist for assigned and float units, updated annually
- Employment application including last 7 years of employment with explanations for gaps over 30 days
- Employment verification for last 7 years (third party or in-house)
- Two professional references required
- Illinois Department of Public Health fingerprinting and registry required if position does not require an Illinois state license (not applicable for RN)
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification
