Registered Nurse (Float Pool)

Location: Weirton, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12 hours per shift, 36 hours per week
Dress Code: Navy Blue scrubs

Job Overview

• Float pool position covering multiple units with varying acuity levels.
• May float to Emergency Department (ED) or Critical Care Unit (CCU) only if within skillset.
• Units include:

  • CCU (10 beds)
  • Intermediate Care (IMC, 30 beds)
  • Medical-Surgical Level 7 (27 beds)
  • Medical-Surgical Level 8 (48 beds)
  • Skilled Care (33 beds)
  • Emergency Department (15 beds)
• Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by unit, ranging from 1:2 in CCU to 1:10 in Skilled Care.
• Assignments communicated via text message within 2 hours before shift start.
• Orientation includes 1 day general orientation plus 1 day with a preceptor on one unit before independent assignment.

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in West Virginia.
• Minimum 5 years nursing experience.
• Preferably at least 1 year ICU or 1 year ED experience.
• ACLS and BLS certifications required; ACLS mandatory if working in CCU or ED.
• Must be comfortable managing patient ratios from 1:2 up to 1:10.
• Ability to titrate drips (e.g., Heparin) in ED and CCU.
• Must be flexible, adaptable, and possess multi-functional expertise with strong problem-solving skills.
• Must have an unexpired driver’s license and be willing to comply with a 50-mile radius rule.
• Licensing issues must be disclosed at time of submission.

Clinical Skills & Responsibilities

• Manage patients with diagnoses such as NSTEMI, pneumonia, sepsis, diabetes, heart disease, diverticulitis, and others.
• Expected to perform ADLs including vital signs, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, answering call lights, and blood sugar monitoring.
• Troubleshoot respiratory equipment (ventilators, trachs, BiPAP, CPAP, Airvo) as respiratory therapists administer treatments.
• Read and interpret telemetry strips, print strips, perform measurements, and identify cardiac rhythms.
• Charge nurse present on each shift; may take patient assignments as needed.
• Nurse aides/patient care techs available with ratios from 1:7 to 1:15.

Scheduling & Work Environment

• Self-scheduling available with 3 twelve-hour shifts per week.
• Schedule created in 4-week blocks; flexibility required to fill staffing gaps.
• Weekend work required every other weekend.
• May participate in holiday rotation.
• No call or standby requirements.

Additional Notes

• Monitor techs available 24/7 on units.
• Must submit a copy of unexpired driver’s license with application.
