Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg/Telemetry (4th Floor)
Location: Prescott, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) with a 30-minute unpaid lunch
Weekly Hours: 36 hours
Unit Details
- Unit Type: Telemetry (two units: 4A and 4B)
- Number of Beds: 48
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Nurse Aide Ratio: 1:10-15
- Telemetry monitored remotely; Telemetry techs located on 3rd floor
- Monitor techs read and post strips; RNs interpret and sign strips at least once per shift
- Common patient diagnoses: COVID, respiratory issues, gastrointestinal, diabetes, TIA, CVA, general medical, orthopedic, and spinal surgical patients
- Respiratory equipment used: BiPAP, CPAP, high flow oxygen, and some breathing treatments
- Charge Nurse does not take patient assignments
- Floating: May float to East Campus and possibly Progressive Care Unit (PCU) if qualified
Required Certifications & Skills
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- Ability to read basic telemetry strips
- Experience with general and orthopedic surgical patients, CVA, and TIA patients preferred
- Cerner electronic health record experience recommended (only one day of orientation provided)
Clinical Practice Notes
- RNs are not required to titrate drips
- Common set-rate drip: Diltiazem
- RNs must interpret telemetry strips and sign at least once per shift
Scheduling & Time Off
- Schedules created for 4-week periods
- Self-scheduling used but finalized by manager
- Weekend Requirement: 2 weekends per 4-week schedule
- Holiday Requirement: Work 2 days and 1 evening or 2 evenings and 1 day during Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, and Thanksgiving Day
- No call or standby requirement
Orientation & Dress Code
- Unit-specific orientation: 1 shift on the unit
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs

- Specialty experience: MedSurg/Telemetry with emphasis on surgical and neurological patients
- Prior travel experience: Not specified or required

Pros
Traveler friendly, good ratios, great scheduling, decent providers, Uses tiger text to communicate with most doctors. Plenty of hiking activities. Close to Sedona, Flagstaff and Phoenix. 5:1 Med/tele and 3:1 PCU.
Cons
Cost of living is High, roughly $2000-2500 for your own private space. Float between East and West Campus, 25 minutes apart, west will likely be where you spend 75% of your shifts so pick your housing accordingly.
