Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
- Employment Type: Travel
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Location: Emergency Department, Asheville, NC
- Unit Type: Emergency Room (Level 2 Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center)
- Unit Size: 101 beds
- Patient Ratios: Typically 4:1 (medical), up to 7:1 on ED behavioral holds
- Scheduling: Every other weekend; no block scheduling; schedule meets department needs
- Floating Policy: No floating outside the ED; must float within all ED sections
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
- At least 1 year of experience in an Emergency Room setting
- Experience in a Level 2 trauma center and high-volume ED (>100,000 visits annually) preferred
- Previous experience with HCA Healthcare preferred
- Teamwork mentality with ability to coach and provide real-time feedback
- Flexibility to work across all areas of the ED
Certifications Required (Must be current before start date)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention)
Equipment & Systems
- Use of Baxter pumps and GE monitors
- Documentation via Cerner electronic health record system
Work Environment & Culture
- Known for strong teamwork and welcoming personalities
- Serves a diverse, multicultural community with over 120 languages spoken locally
- Navy scrubs required as uniform
- Tech support available including cardiac monitoring, triage, and unit clerks

Lots of other travelers, nice approachable management that are on the floor in scrubs to help not criticize, updated cerner launch point, staff helps other staff, security is able to protect staff, PD is at hospital
Cons
Charge is only available to help with traumas otherwise they sit at their desk, techs assign pts to ER rooms making very heavy patient loads with multiple traumas with other nurse assignments being very light, not enough policies to protect nurses from verbal and physical violence from patients
