Job Opportunity: Critical Care Float Nurse (RN)

Schedule
- Night shift only (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays (holiday restrictions apply)
Position Details
- Float to all critical care units within the facility
- Telemetry skills required, including proficiency in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias (a competency test will be administered)
- Must have recent ICU experience within the last year
- Academic/Teaching hospital experience required
- Required clinical skills: ventilators, IV starts, telemetry, conscious sedation
- Preferred skills: intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring, pulmonary artery (PA) lines
- No on-call requirement
- Block scheduling not accommodated
- Local candidates accepted (no radius restrictions)
- Pending licenses not accepted
- References must be from direct supervisors (not charge nurses)
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington State
- Minimum 3 years of Critical Care Float nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Proficiency in telemetry, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Experience with conscious sedation
- Recent ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or competency
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check required within 45 days of start, including nationwide and sex offender searches
- Education verification required (diploma or transcript acceptable)
- WA WATCH search required for Washington state compliance
- Photo for badge required (professional, waist-up, clear lighting, simple background)
- Various facility-specific documents must be signed and submitted (e.g., license acknowledgment, equipment safety, health history, policies and procedures, job description, PCIS agreement, personal data form)
- WA License Complaint Clearance required for all using a Washington State license
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start (not required by facility but required for agency)
- Mask fit test within 12 months of start (specific mask models required)
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or documented declination
- Negative TB test (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive TB history
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination; vaccine series plus confirmatory titer required if non-immune)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (September 29 - March 31)
- COVID vaccination or declination required for tracking purposes
Additional Training and Competencies
- Annual stroke education required for RNs working in neuro and critical care units
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification as applicable
- Suicide prevention training required for multi-state licensed nurses working in Washington (6-hour course)
- Color blindness testing required annually starting 5/4/2026
Notes
- Candidates must submit requested time off (RTO) prior to offer; no additional RTO granted after offer
- Orientation includes pass/fail testing; failure to pass results in cancellation
- Drug screening required by agency within past 12 months; pending drug screens at start are at agency discretion
- Facility uses Epic for charting with hard stops
- Parking available onsite and offsite with shuttle service (details provided separately)
This position is ideal for experienced critical care RNs with strong ICU and telemetry skills seeking a travel contract in a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital environment.
