Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Tennessee, Kingsport)

Job Details

• Employment Type: Travel/Contract
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours each; 18:30–7:00)
• Schedule: 36 hours per week, every other weekend, no call
• Patient Ratio: 1:7
• Float Requirement: Required to float to other units as needed
• Orientation: 16 hours of non-billable orientation starting on Sundays (includes online compliance training)
• Location Restriction: Traveler must live at least 100 miles from the facility

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Certifications & Compliance

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS): Required as per unit description (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI accepted)
• Basic Life Support (BLS): Required for all patient-contact candidates (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI accepted)
• Annual completion of Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
• NURSYS Verification required for RN license
• Completion of Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
• Color Blind Testing required (one-time)
• Required background checks including:

  • Criminal background check within 30 days covering all locations in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification
  • Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check (if licensed or working in Tennessee)
• Drug screening: Standard 9-panel drug test within 14 days prior to start (instant test acceptable as placeholder)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required by facility but required by agency)
• Respirator fit testing completed onsite (CDC facial hair guidelines apply)
• Required immunizations and titers:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (vaccine or declination)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2 PPDs within last 12 months or equivalent)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) titers or vaccination documentation
  • Varicella titer or vaccination documentation
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Sept 29 – Mar 31)

Additional Requirements

• Must actively participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care duties
• Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
• Additional overtime shifts may be flexed based on hospital census without penalty
• Photo for badge must meet specific standards and be submitted within 48 hours of contract signing
• Completion of facility-specific forms and compliance documents within specified timeframes (e.g., staff info form within 24 hours)
• Review and comply with facility dress code, smoking/tobacco use policy, contaminated sharps and body fluid exposure statement, influenza policy, and respirator medical clearance forms

• Preferably 3 professional references (minimum 2 accepted)
• Required skills checklist completion prior to or at start

This position offers a structured night shift schedule with no call and a focus on Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing care. It is suitable for RNs with at least 2 years of relevant experience, including those new to travel nursing.
