Registered Nurse - Surgical Acute (Night Shift)

Location: Hilo, Hawaii
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Provide nursing care in a 34-bed adult surgical unit.
Perform standard RPN III duties with a focus on surgical preoperative and postoperative care.
Care for patients undergoing abdominal surgeries such as laparoscopic cholecystectomy, appendectomy, mastectomies, thyroidectomies, and management of chest tubes and drains.
Utilize equipment including vital signs machines, IV & PCA pumps, Pyxis medication system, and electronic medical records (WOWS/EMR).
Nurse-to-patient ratio is approximately 1:5-6.
Floating to other units/departments may be required.
Dress code: regular nursing uniforms.

Schedule

Three 12-hour night shifts per week.
Must be able to work weekends and flexible shifts.
No on-call requirement.

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Hawaii.
Minimum 2 years of acute care nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Preoperative and postoperative nursing experience.
Experience with abdominal surgeries including laparoscopic cholecystectomy, appendectomy, mastectomies, and thyroidectomies.
Experience managing chest tubes and drains.
Current BLS and ACLS certifications.

Additional Information

Must arrive the Thursday before the start date for an employee health appointment on Friday.
Flexibility to float to other units as needed.

It’s always 4 to 1 except hallways you might only have 3. The staff is so kind and welcoming I have nothing bad to say about them. This was my favorite assignment so far
