Overview
- Nights, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
- Contract length: 13 weeks
- Unit: ED OBS
- Patient ratio: 1:4
- Average volume: 10+ patients per day
- Separate psych/seclusion rooms: Yes
- In-house security 24/7 in the ER: Yes
- Charge nurse takes an assignment: Yes
- RT is in the ER 24/7: Yes
- X-Ray or CT in the ER: Shift dependent
- Phlebotomy draws labs: Both RN and phlebotomy
Required Qualifications
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS (AHA)
- PALS
- TNCC
- ENPC
- NRP
- NIHSS
- Must be in state for the week of orientation
- Must self-schedule a minimum of six weekend shifts per six-week schedule
- Holiday coverage required
- Call or standby requirement is determined by the nurse manager
- Floating is determined by the nurse manager; in an extreme need, may float within Zone 1
- Radius: 60 miles; driver’s license must be submitted

- Common diagnoses include abdominal pain, chest pain, fever, cough, dyspnea, headache, injury, and extremity pain
- Common drips include cardiac, antihypertensive, antiarrhythmic, sedation, and analgesia
- RT equipment includes vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow
- Unit-specific orientation date and location are assigned during the week of orientation
- Nights, 6–9 weekend shifts per six-week schedule, first to float, and may float within Zone 1 in an extreme need
