Job Details

• Shift: Days
• Hours: 12-hour shifts (7am–7pm)
• Weekly Hours: 36 hours
• Contract Length: 13 weeks minimum
• Patient Ratios: 1:3-4 depending on acuity
• Weekend Requirement: 3 out of 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period
• Holiday Coverage: Included in holiday rotation
• Orientation: 3 days floor-specific orientation
• Floating: May float to other telemetry units including T5, T6, Neuro Telemetry
• EMR System: Cerner (PCs in patient rooms)
• Monitors: Philips telemetry monitors; RNs must interpret EKGs
• Nurse Aides: 2 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) on days and nights
• Charge Nurse: Present; RNs do not take patients when charge nurse is on duty unless high census
• Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7
• Pharmacy: Pharmacist on floor during day shifts
• IV Team: SWAT RN available for difficult IV sticks

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Cardiac stepdown patients
• Lung transplant (travelers do not take transplant patients)
• Congestive heart failure (CHF)
• Myocardial infarction (MI)
• Pre-transplant patients
• Esophagectomy recovery
• Emergency room overflow
• Detox patients
• Non-titrating drips/gtts

Required Certifications & Exams

• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam: Must be passed 24-48 hours prior to acceptance; maximum 2 attempts allowed. Failure results in 6-month disqualification within the region.
• Pass/fail exam on Day 1 of orientation
• SIMs Lab: Competency required in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (except ED and NyICU have modified requirements). Maintaining sterile field is critical. Failure to demonstrate competency may result in termination.
• Must be able to pass fit test (men must be clean-shaven)

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of core nursing experience in Cardiac Telemetry or related specialty
• Level 1 Trauma experience required
• Teaching hospital experience required (may work with nursing students)
• Prior travel experience is required for ED and Neuro ICU roles (not explicitly required for this position)

• No facial piercings allowed
• Natural hair color only (no unnatural colors)
• Must have own vehicle if part of a travel team
• Cannot hold multiple contracts simultaneously within this employer system
• Must have been off permanent staff status with this employer system for 12 months before being eligible for travel assignment
• Parking: Assigned parking with shuttle service; night shift assigned to parking garage
• 50-mile radius rule applies (local rates not applicable)

• Nurses may be expected to float to other telemetry units and assist with various patient care needs
