Registered Nurse (RN) – Oncology Acute Telemetry Unit
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Unit: Oncology Acute Telemetry (32 beds)
Shift: Days (12-hour shifts, 7am–7pm)
Contract Length: 13 weeks minimum
Unit & Patient Care Details
- Patient ratio: 1:4
- Patient population: ~85% Oncology, 15% Telemetry MedSurg (surgical, medical, oncology patients)
- Common equipment: Bipap, Cpap ventilators
- EMR system: Cerner
- Telemetry monitoring: Phillips system; RN responsible for EKG interpretation
- Charge nurse role included with light patient assignment; serves as Oncology resource RN
- Nurse aides: 2 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) on days and nights
- Floating: May float to other MedSurg/Telemetry units
- Weekend requirement: At least 1 weekend per month
- Holidays: Scheduled into rotation based on unit needs
- Floor-specific orientation: 2 days on the unit
Required Certifications & Exams
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Chemotherapy certification is a plus
- Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts; failure results in 6-month disqualification in region)
- Day 1 pass/fail exam during orientation (study guide provided)
- SIMs Lab completion required for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (pass/fail; sterile field competency mandatory)
- Exceptions: Neuro ICU and ED have modified SIMs Lab requirements
- Must pass all onboarding requirements by deadline (no pending items allowed)
Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of core nursing experience in the specialty being submitted (Oncology Telemetry)
- Level 1 Trauma and teaching hospital experience required
- Prior travel experience required for ED and Neuro ICU roles (not explicitly required for this Oncology role)
- Must have own vehicle if part of a travel team
- Oncology acute telemetry experience preferred
Work Environment & Policies
- Teaching hospital with nursing students present
- No facial piercings allowed; natural hair colors only (no unnatural colors)
- Male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Parking provided with shuttle service; night shift parking in garage
- No concurrent contracts allowed while working this assignment
- Must have been off permanent staff at this health system for 12 months to qualify for travel assignment

- Unit uses navy scrub color
- Hospital does not have in-house hospitalist or intensivist coverage
- Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7
- IV team (SWAT RN) available for difficult IV sticks
- 36 hours per week scheduled (typically 3 days/week)
