Travel Nurse Opportunity: Med Surg Telemetry (MST/PCU)

• 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Unit Type: MST/PCU (Med Surg Telemetry / Progressive Care Unit)
• Number of Beds: 30 (three 10-bed units)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:5-6
• Nurse Aide Support: Nurse Aides care for 10-15 patients; if no NA, RN cares for 3 patients and provides primary care
• Remote Monitor Techs available; RNs must read telemetry strips

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Surgical patients: total hip & knee replacement, small bowel resection, hysterectomy, exploratory laparoscopy
• Medical patients: MRSA, C. diff infections, suicide attempts, drug or alcohol withdrawal, COPD, pneumonia, COVID-19
• Telemetry patients: chest pain

Required Certifications & Exams

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• Must pass dysrhythmia exam with minimum 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing
• Failure to pass dysrhythmia exam results in 6-month disqualification from certain facilities

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 1 year Med Surg experience required
• Preference for candidates with telemetry experience
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
• Willingness to care for both MST and PCU patients
• Ability to precept nursing students is required

Skills & Responsibilities

• No requirement for RNs to titrate drips
• Care for stable CPAP or BiPAP patients
• Float to Multi Care Unit, Pediatric unit (adult MST patients), and West Campus MedSurg Tele unit
• Participate in holiday rotation and weekend shifts (every other weekend)
• 12-hour shifts: Days (0700-1900) and Nights (1930-0730)
• Possible standby/call rotation during low census (may or may not include travelers)

Additional Requirements & Notes

• Radius Rule: Cannot have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN within the past year at any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity) within 50 miles
• Dress Code: Any scrub color except camouflage
• Orientation: Hospital and unit-specific orientation based on experience
• Must be willing to precept nursing students
