Registered Nurse – Child Adolescent Psychiatric (Contract)
Location: New York, NY
Employment Type: Staffing - Supplier Sourced
Contract Length: 13 weeks (89 days ≈ 13 weeks)
Shift: Day shift, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM, every other weekend required
Unit Details:
- Psychiatric unit with 29 beds
- Average census: 20 patients
- Staffing ratio: 1 nurse to 6 patients
- Schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours each
Job Summary
Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to child and adolescent psychiatric patients using evidence-based practice and nursing theory. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Promote therapeutic relationships with patients and families while supporting patient-centered care and safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver nursing care based on professional practice models and nursing process.
- Assess and evaluate patient needs using critical thinking.
- Integrate assessment and intervention skills in care delivery.
- Collaborate with healthcare team on care plans.
- Prioritize patient care including education, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and care team members.
- Manage assignments within a Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
Patient Experience
- Facilitate patient-centered care activities such as admission welcome, bedside shift report, purposeful hourly rounding, medication review, and discharge wrap-up.
- Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
- Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
- Address patient and family concerns and escalate as needed.
- Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, efficient, patient-centered care and identify barriers to quality.
- Demonstrate clinical skills essential to patient safety.
- Participate in process improvement, peer review, and quality initiatives.
- Collaborate on quality improvement projects and nursing research.
- Follow high reliability principles to avoid high-risk behaviors.
- Escalate safety hazards according to protocol.
- Document nursing practice accurately to support quality initiatives.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate supply and inventory management with leadership.
- Escalate resource deficits appropriately.
- Use cost-effective approaches to patient care resources.
- Document thoroughly in compliance with regulatory and legal standards.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.

- Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Advance clinical competence from novice to expert.
- Maintain a professional image and communicate with empathy and respect.

Required Qualifications
- Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Minimum 2 years RN experience
- Minimum 2 years experience in geriatric psychiatric nursing
- For travel positions: at least 1 year prior travel experience required
- EPIC electronic health record experience highly preferred
