Unit: Cardiovascular Progressive Care (CVPC)
Patient Population:
- Cardiovascular surgery and vascular surgery patients including open heart surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR)
- Thoracic lung surgery (lobectomy, thoracotomy)
- Esophagogastrectomy
- Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair (open and endovascular)
- Femoral-popliteal bypass
- Carotid endarterectomies
- Overflow medical cardiology patients (heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, heart block)
Beds: 40 cardiac surgery stepdown beds
Staffing:
- Day shift: 1 charge RN, 13 RNs, 4 PCTs, 1.33 HUC
- Night shift: 1 charge RN, 13 RNs, 4 PCTs, 0.33 HUC
Patient Ratios:
- RN: 1:5
- PCT: 1:13
Equipment: Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, various lifts
EMR System: Cerner

Valid RN license in North Carolina
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Minimum 2 years of cardiac stepdown nursing experience, including experience within the last year
Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
Stepdown nursing experience
Telemetry experience
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification

Epidural management
Chest tube management
Tube feedings
IV gluccomander use
Cardiac drip management including medications such as phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine

- ER inpatient holding area (1:6 ratio)
Dress Code: Navy scrubs, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white
Schedule:
- Minimum 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Saturday/Sunday, day/night)
- Flexible to work holidays
- No on-call required
