Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department (ED)

Location: Utica, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in a brand new, state-of-the-art 68-bed Emergency Department including super track, psych, trauma, and pediatrics.
  • Facility is a Level 3 trauma center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and Regional Cardiac Center (Cath, EP, IR).
  • Unit is high acuity with patient ratios striving for 1:4 or 1:5, but may vary based on staffing, census, and acuity.
  • All private rooms; occasional hallway beds and results pending areas.
  • Support staff includes Patient Care Technicians (1 per pod), First-look RN, Triage RN, Charge RN, Secretary, Respiratory Therapist, Lab, and Critical Response RN.
  • Medication drips used include TNK, Cleviprex, and Level 1 infusion for Massive Transfusion Protocol (MTP).
  • Orientation consists of half-day clinical orientation and half-day shadowing on unit with a nurse.
  • Parking is available at no charge.
  • Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:30 to 7:00).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum 3 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Current certifications:
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Prior travel nursing experience required.
  • Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system.
  • Completion of Harassment Prevention Training.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Emergency Contact Form prior to start.
  • Background checks including 7-year search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, Education Verification, and Florida Education Audit Confirmation (for RN/LPN).
  • Harassment Prevention Training Certificate (New York state requirement).
  • Competency exams as applicable, including Medication Test/Pharmacology, Dysrhythmia/EKG (for ICU, PCU, ER, CT ICU, and 7th Floor M/S Unit), and Color Blind Testing.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start date.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year and updated annually (specific mask types required).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start.
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
    • Varicella (chickenpox)
  • 9 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days of start.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (September 1 - March 31).
  • Pneumonia vaccination or declination required.
  • Completion of facility-specific online learning modules prior to first shift.
  • Signed facility-specific job description and welcome packet acknowledgment.
  • Photo for badge (headshot on plain background, no head coverings or informal poses).
  • References:
    • 2 professional references for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles within 3 years.
    • 1 professional reference for per diem non-acute care roles.
