Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Lafayette, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Work in a mixed acuity unit including medical, oncology, stroke, cardiac, gastrointestinal, and pulmonary patients.
• Patient ratios: MS patients 1:5-6, PCU patients 1:3-4.
• Care for unstable stroke patients and those on BiPAP.
• Experience with Cardizem, Amiodarone, Lasix, Insulin drips, Post Heart Cath, and Post Pacemaker care required.
• Must have solid neurological nursing experience.
• Accepting MS/Telemetry or PCU RNs only.
• Shift options: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts.
• Locals are NOT accepted for this position.

Required Certifications

• ACLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
• BLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
• NIH Stroke Certification
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM)

Licensure

• Must have Indiana state, compact, or Indiana temporary license in hand prior to start.
• Pending license accepted initially but must be valid before starting.

Experience Requirements

• Specialty: Registered Nurse with solid neurological experience.
• Years of experience: Not explicitly stated, but solid neuro experience is emphasized (implies at least 1-2 years in neuro or related specialty).
• Prior travel experience: Not required.

Facility & Work Environment

• Short-Term Acute Care facility with 194 staffed beds.
• Charting system: Cerner.
• Parking: Free.
• Scrub color: Red top, black bottoms.

Pre-Employment & Compliance Requirements

• Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy).
• Background checks including 7-year history, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks.
• Physical exam within 12 months of start date.
• Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required).
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • TB test within 1 year
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
  • Flu vaccination/documentation required for flu season (no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions allowed with approval)
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months.
• Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and unit competency exam required.
• Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment (with supervisory titles).
• Current employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days.
• Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually.

Additional Notes

• IU Health will not allow Indiana RNs to work at their facilities after 11/30/2024, except for Periop/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers.
• This position is NOT open to local candidates.
• Must be able to work in a dynamic mixed acuity environment with oncology, stroke, cardiac, and pulmonary patients.
