Oncology Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Burlington, Vermont
Contract Length: 16 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse – Oncology
  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Work Days: Monday through Sunday (no block schedules)
  • Patient Care: Oncology unit (Miller 5)
  • Responsibilities include:
    • Chemotherapy and biotherapy administration (certification preferred)
    • Blood products administration
    • IV antibiotics and anticoagulant infusions
    • Central line care and maintenance
    • IV starts
    • Telemetry monitoring (no monitor techs)
    • Tube feedings
  • Experience working in a large teaching facility required
  • EPIC electronic medical record experience within the past 2 years is mandatory and non-negotiable
  • Prior travel nursing experience is required
  • Preference for candidates with chemotherapy experience or oncology specialty experience

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Vermont
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA certified
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA certified
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
  • Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification preferred
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may be required depending on unit/job specifics
  • State license primary source verification within 30 days of start and upon expiration
  • NURSYS verification within 30 days of start and updated annually

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Vermont
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum of 1 year oncology experience, with oncology experience within the last year
  • Prior travel nursing experience
  • Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Orientation & Training

  • Bi-weekly orientation sessions on Mondays
  • Completion of EPIC and Cornerstone modules prior to start (approximately 8 hours, non-billable)
  • Must provide screenshot of module completion
  • Orientation includes safety manual acknowledgement and competency exams (medication/pharmacology, color blind testing, etc.)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 30 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • Education verification as required by job
  • Vermont Adult and Child Abuse Registry consent and search required
  • Vermont Crime Information Center (VCIC) criminal background check required for Vermont placements
  • COVID-19 vaccination or declination required, plus completion of COVID questionnaire prior to start
  • Flu vaccination or exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)
  • Pneumonia vaccination or declination required if assigned to New York facilities
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series and titer or signed declination
  • Tuberculosis screening (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within past 12 months, chest X-ray if positive
  • N95 fit test required prior to assignment and updated annually (specific acceptable mask types)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start date

Documentation & Facility Specific Requirements

  • Passport-style photo with plain light background for badge (no logos, hats, sunglasses, or filters)
  • Auto insurance proof required if using personal or rental vehicle (strongly recommended due to lack of public transportation)
  • Completion of various facility-specific forms including emergency contact, candidate information, and consent forms
  • NameTag verification setup required
  • Workday information attestation and other administrative forms must be completed prior to start
  • COVID testing protocol on Day 1 of work (if required) with mask-wearing and social distancing policies enforced

Additional Notes

  • Reliable personal or rental vehicle transportation is strongly recommended due to no public transportation access
  • All employment gaps over 30 days must be explained and complete work history information (bed count, EMR, facility type, etc.) is required for submission
  • No block scheduling allowed for this assignment

References & Verification

  • Two professional references from assignments within the last 3 years required
  • Skills checklist within 12 months required
  • Verification of most recent 2 years of clinical work history required

This position is ideal for experienced oncology RNs with recent EPIC experience and prior travel nursing assignments who are comfortable working night shifts in a large teaching hospital environment.
