Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit and Work Environment
- Unit: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) / Heart Step-Down / Progressive Care / Cath Lab Recovery
- Number of Beds: 16
- Patient Ratios: Typically 2:1 or 1:1, occasionally 3:1 depending on acuity
- Staffing: RNs only (no unit clerks or patient care techs)
- Equipment: Ventilators, Telemetry, Baxter IV Pumps, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), Impella, Hypothermia equipment
- Documentation System: Cerner
- Scheduling: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week, alternating weekends
- Floating Policy: Travelers float to all areas within the unit
- Orientation: 4-hour hospital orientation plus an 8-hour floor shift
Required Skills and Experience
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Experience with Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO)
- Experience with Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD)
- Experience in cath lab recovery
- Skilled in titration of vesicant medications
- Familiarity with pressors
- Experience with sedation and paralytics
- Proficient in ventilator management and tracheostomy care
- Telemetry interpretation skills
Advanced/Preferred Skills
- Experience with IABP, Impella, and CRRT highly desirable
- Procedures performed on unit include cardioversion, central line insertion, EGD, bronchoscopy, chest tube insertions, pericardiocentesis, and thoracentesis
Certifications and Licenses
- Required: Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIH Certification
- CCRN certification recommended but not required
Dress Code
- Scrub colors for RNs: All navy, all white, or a combination of navy and white
- No pullovers or hoodies allowed
- No green scrubs except when uniform is soiled at work
Additional Information
- Tobacco use is prohibited on campus and in personal vehicles parked on campus
- 48 hours guaranteed per week; overtime after 48 hours
- Special scheduling requests (e.g., return to office or special shifts) will not be accommodated
