Registered Nurse - Surgical

Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)

Job Summary

Provide professional nursing care to a group of patients during assigned shifts, utilizing nursing processes, current trends, technology, and resources. Deliver post-operative care for complex surgical patients, including management of tracheostomies, wound vacs, complex wounds, and new ostomies. Collaborate with surgical and residency teams to ensure quality patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Perform all unit-specific nursing duties within scope of practice.
Complete initial patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
Implement and modify nursing interventions based on ongoing patient evaluation.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
Ensure patient and staff safety by identifying and addressing hazards.
Communicate effectively with healthcare team and provide constructive feedback to peers.
Identify personal learning needs and pursue professional development.
Provide specialized post-operative care and education for patients and families.

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing.
Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients.
Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Additional Information

Work collaboratively with general surgical and oral maxillofacial surgery residency services.
