Job Summary

Provide specialized nursing care on a 20-bed medical stepdown unit focused on patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI), cardiac arrhythmias, cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure (CHF), and other low-risk cardiac/chest pain diagnoses. Care also includes long-term ventilator-dependent patients and general medical patients requiring cardiac monitoring.

Unit Description

• Cardiopulmonary Stepdown unit specializing in cardiac and pulmonary care.
• Patient population includes cardiology, renal, endocrinology, general medicine, pulmonology, gastroenterology, and oncology.
• Staff receive specialized training in non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (Bi-PAP, C-PAP, A-PAP).
• Responsibilities include infusion therapy, transfusions, injections, and central line care.
• Patient care assistants support with activities of daily living (ADLs), point-of-care glucose testing, and 12 Lead EKGs.
• The unit is a dedicated stroke unit; all RNs are NIH stroke scale certified.

Contract Length

• 8 weeks

Shift Details

• 12-hour shifts
• Nights and every other weekend
• 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

Education

• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required

Licensure & Certifications

• Valid RN license in Ohio
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• ACLS certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Experience & Skills

• Minimum 1 year of recent Cardiac Stepdown experience
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide age- and culturally-specific patient care and education
• Effective communication skills with peers and maintenance of confidentiality
• Commitment to continuing professional growth and competence
• Ability to accept and implement change and work in a culturally diverse environment
• Stepdown nursing experience
