Registered Nurse – MedSurg

Location: Franklin, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Medical Surgical nurse needed for a 13-week travel assignment in a mid-size hospital (34 beds).
• Work environment includes common diagnoses such as pneumonia (PNA), COPD, CHF, orthopedic cases (shoulders, hips, knees), appendectomy, cholecystectomy, diverticulitis, bowel resection, and pancreatitis.
• Shift options: 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM (Days) and 6:00 PM – 6:30 AM (Nights).
• Weekend rotation required: approximately 4 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule.
• Holiday rotation based on calendar.
• Self-scheduling available depending on census and staffing.
• Call/standby may be required if assignment is canceled, with a 45-minute return policy.
• Floating within MedSurg scope of practice.

Patient Care Ratios & Support

• Day shift nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
• Night shift nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6
• Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) available on both shifts with a max ratio of 1:12.
• Charge nurse available on both shifts; house supervisor available on nights.
• Remote telemetry monitoring with monitor tech support on CCU; MedSurg nurses are not responsible for strip interpretation.
• Respiratory equipment includes chronic BiPAP and CPAP.

Required Certifications & Skills

• BLS (AHA) certification required.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required.
• Experience in MedSurg, PCU, Telemetry, or CCU required.
• No requirement for RNs to titrate drips.
• Common drips include Heparin per protocol.

Orientation & Dress Code

• Orientation includes 1 shift of clinical nursing education plus 2 shifts on the unit with a preceptor.
• Initial assignment includes 3 consecutive 12-hour shifts with no blocked scheduling.
• Dress code: Navy blue scrubs.

Work Hours

• 12-hour shifts.
• Approximately 36 hours per week.
