Travel Nurse Opportunity: Med Surg Telemetry / PCU Unit

Location: Prescott Valley, Arizona
Unit: Med Surg Telemetry (MST) / Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Beds: 30 total (three 10-bed units)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:5-6
• Nursing Assistants: NAs care for 10-15 patients; if no NA, RN cares for 3 patients and provides primary care
• Telemetry: Yes, with Remote Monitor Techs; RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
• Respiratory Equipment: Care for stable CPAP or BiPAP patients

Patient Population / Common Diagnoses

• Surgical: Total hip & knee replacement, small bowel resection, hysterectomy, exploratory laparoscopy
• Medical: MRSA, C. diff infections, suicide attempts, drug or alcohol withdrawal, COPD, pneumonia, COVID-19
• Telemetry: Chest pain patients

Requirements & Qualifications

• Certifications: BLS and ACLS required
• Experience: Minimum 1 year Med Surg experience; telemetry experience preferred
• Skills: Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips; dysrhythmia exam required on hire (must pass within two attempts with a minimum score of 80%)
• Additional: Willingness to care for both MST and PCU patients; may be asked to precept nursing students
• Restrictions: Cannot have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN within the past year at any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity) within 50 miles radius

Orientation & Training

• Hospital orientation plus unit-specific orientation based on experience

Scheduling & Shifts

• 12-hour shifts: 0700-1900 or 1930-0730
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Fri-Sat nights, Sat-Sun days)
• Holiday rotation to distribute holidays fairly
• Possible standby/call rotation during low census (travelers may or may not be included)
• Floating required to Multi Care Unit, Pediatric unit (adult MST patients), and West Campus MedSurg Tele unit

Additional Information

• Charge Nurse oversees 50 inpatient beds including MST, Pediatrics, and Acuity Adaptable MCU unit
• RNs are not required to titrate drips
• Dress code: Any scrub color except camouflage
• Must be willing to precept nursing students
