Neurology Rehab Nurse Opportunity - Phoenix, Arizona
Facility & Unit Overview
- Unit: Neuro Rehab
- Unit Size: 52 beds
- Hospital Size: 607 beds
- Trauma Level: Level 1 Trauma
- EMR: Cerner
- Patient Population: Approximately 90% neurological patients including TBI, brain tumor resection, CVA, lung, liver, and kidney transplant patients
- Care Model: Teaching hospital with nursing students; interdisciplinary team rounds 5 days/week, 3 hours/day therapy
- Average Length of Stay: 19-21 days
- Staffing Ratios:
- RN: 1:6
- Tech: 1:8
- Charge Nurses: 2 with light assignments depending on census
- Nurse Aides: Yes
- Rehab Physicians: 3 physicians rounding daily, on-call at night
- Support Services:
- Respiratory Therapy 24/7
- Pharmacy 24/7
- SWAT RN available for difficult IV sticks
- Shift Start Times for Techs: 6:30 AM, 3:00 PM, 11:30 PM
- Floating: Yes, to any MedSurg unit
- Orientation: 2 shifts of floor-specific orientation
Job Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience:
- Minimum 2 years CORE experience in specialty submitted
- Level 1 Trauma experience required
- Previous travel experience required for ED, Neuro ICU
- Strong MedSurg experience required; Rehab experience preferred
- Certifications:
- RN BLS and FIM required
- Tech BLS and FIM required
- Exams:
- Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts)
- Day 1 Pass/Fail SIMs Lab (Foley catheter insertion & central line dressing changes)
- Day 1 Pass/Fail Exam during orientation
- Compliance:
- No facial piercings allowed
- Only natural hair colors permitted
- Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Other:
- Must be gone from CommonSpirit as permanent staff for 12 months to be eligible
- Cannot hold multiple contracts simultaneously within Dignity AZ
- Travel teams must have their own vehicles
- 50-mile radius rule applies (driver’s license is source of truth)
Work Schedule & Environment
- Contract Length: 13 weeks minimum
- Shifts: 12-hour nights available
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 8-week period (approximately 4 per 4 weeks)
- Holidays: Work included in core rotation; 2 out of 4 major holidays required
- Scrub Color: Slate grey
- Patient Care: No telemetry or ventilator patients on this unit
- Workload: Busy times typically 6-9 AM and 6:30-9 PM
- Communication: High level of communication and personal involvement with patients and families expected; partnership of care model
- Additional Notes:
- Teaching hospital environment with nursing students
- Floating to MedSurg units may be required
- Must be competent in sterile field maintenance and common nursing skills such as IV therapy and wound care
This position is ideal for nurses with strong MedSurg and neuro rehab experience who are comfortable working in a high-communication, teaching hospital environment with a Level 1 trauma designation.
