Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (Travel/Contract)
Location: San Francisco, California
Contract Length: 25 weeks
Job Details
- 12-hour variable shifts; straight day shift requests will not be considered
- Shift options:
- Day: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (3 shifts/week)
- Night: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (3 shifts/week)
- Total hours per week: 36
- Must be able to float to other facilities within the system
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- At least 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel assignment
- Current certifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a Level 1 Trauma Center
- Experience with continuous IV sedation
- Triage experience
Certifications & Competencies
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) may be required for ER/ED
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) may be required for ER/ED
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (passing score ≥ 80%) within 1 year of start
- Unit-specific competency exam (passing score ≥ 80%) within 12 months of start
- Core clinical competency exams (Parts I, II, III) with passing scores ≥ 80%, updated annually
- Pass/Fail Telemetry and Medication exams on first day of orientation (specific to certain units including ER)
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start including physician statement of fitness to work
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific approved mask types required; onsite fit testing available as last resort)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years; no declinations accepted except medical exemptions)
- Two negative TB tests (PPD, QuantiFERON, or T-Spot) with specific timing requirements
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: IGG titer or 2 vaccines required
- Hepatitis B: titer, series, or declination (declination must be signed within 1 year)
- Varicella: IGG titer or 2 vaccines required (history of disease not accepted)
- Drug testing: Standard 9-panel (excluding THC) within 30 days of start, re-run every 2 years
- Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Nov-Apr)
- COVID-19 vaccination is strongly recommended but not required
Background & Verification
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, including specific county and nationwide checks
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification or copy of diploma/transcript acceptable
- State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
- Sex offender search required for extensions with assignment gaps over 30 days
- Work history verification for 7 years required (attestations considered only after multiple verification attempts)
Additional Requirements
- Completion of unit-specific skills checklist, updated annually
- Completion of facility-required learning modules prior to or on first day of orientation (for RNs starting on Tuesday, all modules except in-person trainings must be completed before Day 1)
- Completion of facility-required cybersecurity and HIPAA training and quizzes with passing scores
- Completion of annual TB questionnaire within 30 days of start
- Emergency contact information must be provided
- Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing required for all RNs
Notes
- Candidates must be prepared for pass/fail exams on medication and telemetry on the first day of orientation
- Candidates must be able to comply with all health and safety documentation and immunization requirements prior to start
- Religious and medical exemptions for COVID-19 vaccination require advance approval and documentation
- Candidates must review and initial COVID-19 preparedness and facility policies prior to start
