NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Portland, Oregon
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Provide nursing care for neonatal patients (less than one year old) in the NICU.
- May float within the facility and to related units such as PICU, Pediatric Acute (Infants floor), or NICU Overflow, within scope of competency.
- Floating is mandatory; refusal to float may result in contract cancellation.
- Facility type: Children's hospital.
- Charting system: Epic.
- Parking: Free in any unrestricted space.
- Scrub color: Any color except black and camo.
Schedule
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (07:00 - 19:30).
- Weekend requirement: 3 Saturdays and 3 Sundays in a 6-week period.
- Holiday requirement: At least 1 holiday (either July 4th or Labor Day).
- No on-call required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Oregon.
- Minimum 1 year of NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care) nursing experience within the last year.
- One completed travel nursing assignment.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Additional Requirements
- Cannot live within 50 miles of any facility in the system.
- Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: No RTO within the first week of start date; maximum 7 days RTO per assignment.
- Background check required, including 7-year criminal history and other standard screenings.
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start.
- Immunizations and health documentation required:
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination (Td not accepted).
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year.
- Annual TB questionnaire.
- Immunity or vaccination documentation for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
- Negative drug screen within 12 months.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (required October 1 - March 31).
- COVID vaccination documentation or declination.
- Annual respirator medical clearance (RespSafety).
- Two professional references required (supervisory or above, within 3 years).
Compliance and Documentation
- Must review and acknowledge facility policies and floating agreement prior to start.
- Primary source verification required for licensure and certifications.
- Transcript/diploma copy required if applicable.
- Competency exams required for clinical candidates.
Notes
- Guaranteed contracted hours with mandatory cancellation terms (must cancel 1.5 hours before shift start).
- Personnel may be mandatorily cancelled one shift per two-week pay period without cause or penalty.
This position is ideal for experienced NICU RNs with prior travel assignments who are flexible with floating and meet Oregon licensure and certification requirements.
