NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job – Columbus, Ohio


Position Overview

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Day shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
  • Weekly Hours: 48 hours
  • Float Requirements: Must float to PICU, CV PICU, stepdown, MS, and occasionally ED (rare). Also float to BPD NICU (bronchopulmonary dysplasia) with frequent trach care and heavy parent involvement.
  • Additional float locations include multiple campuses within the region.

Required Qualifications

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse – NICU
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2 years total Level III/IV NICU experience
    • At least 1 year Level IV NICU experience specifically
  • Licenses & Certifications:
    • Valid Ohio RN license (State or Compact)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • References:
    • Two professional references required at time of application
    • At least one reference must be a manager or supervisor (Charge RN acceptable)
  • Background & Compliance:
    • Current government-issued photo ID (no temporary IDs accepted)
    • Criminal background check within 30 days of start (7-year search including all counties lived/worked)
    • Education verification through National Student Clearinghouse or equivalent
    • Ohio BCI/FBI fingerprinting within 60 days of start, updated for each new contract
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
    • State-specific searches including Nurse Aide Registry, Inmate Registry, Medicaid Exemption, and Abuse Registry within 30 days of start
  • Health & Safety:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start (must state free of communicable diseases)
    • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start
    • Immunizations and Titers:
      • TDAP vaccine within last 10 years (no titer substitution)
      • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 31 – May 31); medical/religious exemptions require facility approval
      • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative/equivocal
      • Varicella – positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative/equivocal
      • Hepatitis B – completed series, positive titer, or declination accepted if titer negative/equivocal
    • TB Testing:
      • Two PPDs or IGRA (QGOLD/TSPOT) within 12 months
      • For positive TB results, additional chest x-ray and treatment documentation required
      • TB questionnaire required prior to start
    • N95 Fit Testing required within 1 year of start; annual updates required
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (passing score required)
    • Other competency exams as applicable

Additional Requirements & Information

  • Interview Process:
    • Two-part interview: initial screening with Float Pool Leader within 24-48 hours of submission, followed by potential interview with NICU unit manager based on feedback.
  • Assignment:
    • Assignments will be appropriate to float areas and skill level.
  • Documentation:
    • Legal name on all documents must match RN license exactly (including middle name if listed).
    • No screenshots or photos accepted for certifications or compliance documentation.
  • Skills:
    • Unit-specific skills checklist required and must be updated annually.
  • References:
    • Peer references are not accepted.

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

This position is ideal for experienced NICU RNs comfortable with high-acuity pediatric care, including tracheostomy management and working in multiple specialized units. Flexibility to float across various critical care and stepdown units is essential.
