Registered Nurse - MedSurg Telemetry (Nights)
Location: Chesapeake, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for MedSurg Telemetry unit on night shifts. The position involves caring for neurology/stroke patients with a patient ratio of 1:7. Shift options include 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts (overtime after 48 hours). Work schedule includes nights, weekdays, every other weekend (EOW), float, and holidays.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Virginia
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of telemetry experience within the last year
- Experience with neurology and stroke patients
- IV start proficiency
- Proficient in Epic electronic medical record system
Patient Care Details
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 7 patients
- Unit: MedSurg Telemetry (MS/Tele)
- Night shift with variable schedules including holidays and float
Compliance and Background
- Zero tolerance for any license or background issues
- 7-year criminal background check required within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Must provide all required documentation including current NURSYS report and Qualivis Cover Sheet
- Fingerprinting required (Virginia VSP National Criminal Background Check) effective 1/1/2026
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Physical exam within 12 months, updated annually
- Fit test for N95 mask within 1 year, updated annually (PAPR not allowed)
- Required immunizations and titers:
- TDAP (within 10 years, no exemptions accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella titers or boosters as applicable
- Seasonal flu vaccination required or approved exemption (mask required if exempt)
- COVID vaccine preferred but not required
Additional Requirements
- Pass/fail EKG/medication competency testing at orientation (80% minimum, one attempt only)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Color blindness testing (100% passing score required)
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment
- Acknowledgment of pass/fail testing for cardiac monitor reading competence
- Proof of 2 professional references
- Completed employment application/resume
- Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually
- Photo for badge (passport style, shoulders up, plain background)

- Located in Coastal Virginia, near Virginia Beach and Norfolk
- Outdoor activities and waterways nearby for lifestyle balance
