Position Details

Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Department (ED)
Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

Unit: Emergency Department
Number of Beds: 101
Patient Ratios: Typically 4:1 (medical), up to 7:1 on ED behavioral holds
Staffing: Techs available; work includes cardiac monitoring, internal processing, triage, and unit clerks (days and nights)
Equipment: Baxter pumps, GE monitors
Documentation System: Cerner
Scheduling: Every other weekend required; no block scheduling; schedule must meet department needs
Floating Policy: No floating outside the ED; must be flexible to float within all ED sections
Patient Experience: Emphasis on AIDET communication, respectful behavior, and keeping patients informed throughout their visit

Required Certifications (Must have before start date)

ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
BLS (Basic Life Support)
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention)
NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) – required within 90 days of hire

Experience Requirements

Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in a Level II trauma center or comprehensive stroke center
At least 1 year of experience in an Emergency Room setting
Previous experience in a high-volume ED (>100,000 visits) preferred
Previous experience with HCA Healthcare preferred
Teamwork mentality with ability to coach and provide real-time feedback
Flexibility to work in all areas of the Emergency Department

Additional Information

Dress Code: Navy scrubs required

Pros

Lots of other travelers, nice approachable management that are on the floor in scrubs to help not criticize, updated cerner launch point, staff helps other staff, security is able to protect staff, PD is at hospital

Cons

Charge is only available to help with traumas otherwise they sit at their desk, techs assign pts to ER rooms making very heavy patient loads with multiple traumas with other nurse assignments being very light, not enough policies to protect nurses from verbal and physical violence from patients
