- Step-down: 23 beds
- Medical-Surgical: 16 beds
- Staffing:
- Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 11 RNs, 4 PCTs
- Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 10 RNs, 4 PCTs
- Patient Ratios:
- Step-down: 1 nurse to 3-4 patients
- Medical-Surgical: 1 nurse to 4-6 patients
- Equipment Used:
- Lifts
- Chest tubes
- Cardiac drips
- Stable ventilated patients
- Trachs
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Cerner
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years nursing experience
- Experience working with tracheostomies (trachs)
- Certifications: ACLS and BLS
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with Cerner EMR
Typical Procedures on Unit
- Trach care
- Chest tube management
- Wound dressing changes
Work Environment & Expectations
- Personality Fit: Flexibility and a high level of clinical competence
- Floating Areas: Other medical-surgical and progressive care units
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
- Weekend/On-call Requirements: Approximately 6 weekend shifts (Saturday or Sunday) in a 6-week period
This role is ideal for RNs with solid step-down or med-surg experience who are comfortable managing complex patients including those with trachs and chest tubes, and who thrive in a flexible, fast-paced environment.

Lots of other travelers, nice approachable management that are on the floor in scrubs to help not criticize, updated cerner launch point, staff helps other staff, security is able to protect staff, PD is at hospital
Cons
Charge is only available to help with traumas otherwise they sit at their desk, techs assign pts to ER rooms making very heavy patient loads with multiple traumas with other nurse assignments being very light, not enough policies to protect nurses from verbal and physical violence from patients
