PCU Registered Nurse

Overview

  • Travel/contract RN position in Burlington, North Carolina
  • Night shift: 3x12s, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
  • Weekend rotation and holidays as needed
  • 13-week contract
  • First-time travelers are accepted

Unit

  • Cardiac Medical Progressive Care department with 30 private beds
  • Rooms are remotely monitored by the Centralized Cardiac Monitoring Department

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • PCU - Progressive Care Unit (2 years of experience)
  • PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Driver's License
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Telemetry monitoring on the unit
  • Pre/post cardiac catheterization care
  • Peripheral line care and management
  • PICC line management
  • Management of cardiac drips without titration
  • Management of vasoactive drips without titration
  • Procedural sedation administration
  • Chest tube management (Emerson, Pleur-evac)
  • Experience with external CPAP/BiPAP
  • Experience with Epic

Preferred

  • Previous Charge RN experience
  • NIH
  • Use of Rapid Response Teams

Clinical Focus

  • Cardiac patients, including CHF, ACS, arrhythmias, pre/post cardiac catheterization with and without intervention, rule out MI, syncope, and pacemaker placement
  • Secondary focus on respiratory problems such as COPD, pneumonia, and BIPAP

Scheduling

  • Staff are scheduled in 6-week periods through a self-assisted schedule
  • Scheduling is based on departmental need, patient work intensity, skill mix, and previous assignments
