Job Description
- Position at a major hospital campus on Med/Surg Telemetry unit.
- Shifts: 3 twelve-hour shifts per week (12-hour shifts only).
- Rotating day/night shifts (7pm-7:30am / 7am-7:30pm). Shift rotation may be required to meet hospital operational needs.
- Must work at least every other holiday.
- Orientation includes ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate pass/fail testing.
Requirements
- Minimum 18 months permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel assignment.
- Minimum 18 months recent Med/Surg or Telemetry experience (travel experience accepted).
- Must hold a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license.
- Certifications required:
- AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIHSS Stroke Certification
- Pass ECG rhythm recognition and SafeMedicate testing during orientation.
Certifications & Competencies
- Annual renewal required for BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and other relevant certifications.
- Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
- Pass/fail testing for ECG and medication dosing during orientation (not required for legacy candidates with less than 6 months gap between contracts).
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required annually.
Background & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID required on assignment.
- Background check required prior to start, including:
- FCRA compliant 7-year search
- SSN trace, counties, states, nationwide, sex offender registry, OFAC, FACIS Level 3
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- Fingerprinting (BCI and FBI) required within 48 hours of contract signing and updated annually. Must be completed under nursing code 4723.09. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
- Education verification required for all candidates.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later).
- Fit mask test (3M N95) within 12 months and updated annually.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tdap every 10 years
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella (boosters if titers negative/equivocal)
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or declination
- Varicella vaccine or positive titer (boosters if titers negative/equivocal)
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (10/31 - 03/31)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually. TB questionnaire if history of positive TB.
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
Documentation & Onboarding
- Completion of online training modules prior to start; must be done on a computer using Google Chrome.
- Modules include mandatory training videos and tests; skipping videos will lock candidate out.
- Modules typically take multiple days to complete and must be finished before clearance to start.
- Candidates returning after a break longer than 6 months must re-complete modules.
- Candidates with less than 6 months gap between Cleveland Clinic assignments may not need to re-orient.
References & Work History
- Two professional references required from employment within one year of start, from a manager, supervisor, or director (co-worker references not accepted).
- Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care in a similar specialty.
- Annual skills checklist required.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID while on assignment.
- Must be prepared to complete all required health screenings, background checks, and certifications prior to or during orientation.
- Facility reserves the right to rotate shifts as needed.
- Candidates must be able to work holidays as scheduled.
This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg Telemetry RNs with recent acute care experience, who hold the necessary Ohio or compact state licenses and certifications, and are comfortable with rotating 12-hour shifts including nights and holidays.
