Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel Contract

Location: Silverdale, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

Seeking an experienced Emergency Room (ER) Registered Nurse for a travel assignment in a Level II Trauma Center with approximately 56 beds (expandable to 60-70 with hall beds). The ER includes:

  • 6 Fast Track beds
  • Separate Triage area with 5 beds (travelers may be assigned triage after testing)
  • 18 designated holding beds for inpatients awaiting placement
  • Locked psychiatric/seclusion area with 6 private treatment rooms
  • In-house security present

Daily patient volume ranges from 170 to 200 with nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:3, or 1:4 for low acuity patients.


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience (travelers with 1 year experience in larger trauma settings may be considered)
  • Active Washington State RN license or Compact License
  • Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, TNCC, PALS or ENPC
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) mandatory

Clinical Environment & Responsibilities

  • Common patient diagnoses: Cardiac events, Stroke, Sepsis, Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), Altered Mental Status (AMS), Respiratory issues, Abdominal pain, Mental Health cases
  • Manage ER holds independently; inpatient RNs may float to assist
  • Collaborate with ED physicians and mid-level providers
  • Work alongside ED Techs, CNAs, paramedics, and patient sitters for 1:1 observation as needed
  • Use of Epic EMR system
  • Monitor telemetry strips and collaborate with monitor techs
  • Radiology (X-Ray, CT) located adjacent to ED; transport assists with patient movement
  • Phlebotomy primarily performed by nurses or ED Techs; lab assists with difficult draws
  • Respiratory Therapy manages vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow oxygen, and ABGs; ED Techs perform EKGs

Scheduling & Orientation

  • Shift: Days, 12 hours per shift, approximately 36 hours per week
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday requirement: Must work holidays in November/December; one holiday off may be granted if unit demands allow
  • No call or standby requirement; extra shifts available but not mandatory
  • No floating to other units required
  • Orientation:
    • Day 1: Compliance, policies, education (8-10 hours)
    • Day 2: Department-specific orientation (12 hours)
  • Must work Labor Day weekend
  • No Return to Origin (RTO) considered during the first full week of assignment

Additional Notes

  • Manager cannot accommodate same schedules/shifts for duo submissions
  • Professional dress code with any professional scrub colors allowed
